Near Miss

By Max

I've a mental flash
of gravel rash
as a cager cuts me off
and brakes bite hard
to stretch the yard
between my bike and him
He cruises on oblivious
his indicators still
As I sit there
with heart in mouth
and fight the urge to kill
How many times its happened
how paranoid I've grown
to keep a Volvo's bonnet
from becoming my new home
They pull from hidden driveways
swerve into your lane
well camouflaged by parked in cars
all looking just the same
They tend to fly through stop signs
Ignore red traffic lights
Secure in the knowledge
Scooters got no tonnage rights
We've heard them tell the officer
"I didn't see him there!"
1200 pounds of muscle, steel
leather, flowing hair?
Well maybe I'm invisible
to him and to his wife
but is teenage daughters winking
yeah there's something to this life!
